Junior Certificate |
Curragh Post Primary School offers a three year Junior Certificate Programme. Students normally study the following subjects: Core / Compulsory: Irish; English; Maths; History; Geography; Civic, Social and Political Education (C.S.P.E.) and Science, all of which are examined in the Junior Certificate exam at the end of third year. Students must, also, study the following non – examinable subjects: Ethics; Social, Personal and Health Education (S.P.H.E.) and Physical Education. Options: Students normally choose three of the following subjects: Art; Business; French; Home Economics; Music, Materials Technology Wood and Technical Graphics. The student’s three optional subjects will be examined in the Junior Certificate exam at the end of third year. |

Senior Cycle Options |
There are two two-year programmes for Leaving Certificate students. a) Established Leaving Certificate. b) Established Leaving Certificate plus Leaving Certificate Vocational Programme (L.C.V.P.). These two Leaving Cert. options cater for the different interests and abilities of the students in our care. Established Leaving Cert. At Leaving Cert. examination level, students study seven subjects. For state examinations, they study a) Irish, English and Maths (the core / compulsory subjects) b) and four other subjects of their choosing (options). REMEMBER: Students must choose four option subjects to study along with the core / compulsory subjects of Irish, English and Maths. Leaving Certificate Examination Subjects
Leaving Certificate Exam Subjects are grouped as follows: Language Group: Science Group: Compulsory: Irish and English. Compulsory: Mathematics Options: French. Options: Biology. Social Studies Group: Business Studies Group: Art (including Crafts); Accounting and Business History and Geography. Applied Science Group: Construction Studies; Home Economics (Social & Scientific) and Design and Communications Graphics (previously called Technical Drawing). Students also study Ethics and Physical Education. |
